In this two individual day class we will go over detailed information on Map and Compass with GPS as navigational tools. In the classroom we'll learn the anatomy of the map, apply navigation skills, and have class exercises both inside and outside. Adding the compass with the map, we will learn the skills necessary to take a bearing, do triangulation, plus other Map and Compass skills.  In addition, adding the GPS and how it works with real world practice on setting and following Waypoints, Tracking, with GPS with map concepts.  Please be prepared for cold, hot, and even wet weather.

The next day we will go into the field and will work as teams to navigate our way to intermediate landmarks as well as our final destination.   We will utilize the map, compass and GPS along the way. Each Team will have at least one patroller to act as a mentor to help the team navigate to a predetermined location.

Also, please note that we require everyone in the class to sign the EBSP Group Liability Release. The form will be required to read and sign each morning before starting the class. In addition, we will follow the current guidelines for COVID-19 within the El Dorado and Amador Counties at the time of the class. The first day of class is from 9:00-4:00 and will be at the Old Pollock Pines School. Parking will be available behind the school, at the end of Cox St, the road to the SW (Placerville side) of the building complex.

The second day of the class will be in the field; location and time TBA.

A Non-Member $20.00 donation is suggested to pay for the facility and materials. The EBSP will provide the facility, workbook, a compass to borrow, maps and training. You will need to provide an optional GPS or GPS app on your phone if you have one.  The GPS itself is not required, but will enhance the learning experience.
