Welcome to the Eldorado Backcountry Ski Patrol (EBSP) website!

We are an all-volunteer backcountry ski and snowshoe patrol which operates under formal agreement with the Eldorado National Forest (ENF). Now in our 42nd year, our members come from many different backgrounds and experiences, but we all share a love of the outdoors and a commitment to providing safety and assistance to the winter backcountry public.

We are a public-service organization. Our patrollers are trained to perform a variety of tasks, including:

  • Education and outreach: We provide educational programs on winter backcountry safety and winter preparedness to the public. Please check our website for class announcements.
  • Trail maintenance: We survey, mark, and maintain backcountry trails. If you’ve seen a blue diamond trail in the Eldorado National Forest, we put it there!
  • Patrolling backcountry areas: Our patrollers regularly patrol within the ENF to provide assistance and in-field education to the winter backcountry enthusiast. To reach patroller status, each candidate must pass a comprehensive set of trainings including avalanche awareness, mountain travel, map & compass, and achieve and maintain wilderness first aid and CPR – BLS.

We invite you to explore our website – it’s a treasure trove of resources! If you are interested in learning more about our work or becoming a member, please check out Become a Member and Classes and Events. We are always looking for enthusiastic new members who love the winter backcountry to join our team. If you have questions, contact us at If specifically interested in joining EBSP, contact us at
