Skills and Items covered: Vehicle Winter Preparation - what you need to know to prepare your vehicle and emergency supplies if stuck in traffic. Pack and Winter 10 Essentials - going over the must have items when heading out into the winter back-country. Clothing - covering the layering system and types of materials best suited for cold and wet conditions, Weather - how to make both a good forecast at home and out on the trail. Winter Nutrition for the Backcountry - covers food and hydration for cold high energy needs for the winter back-country traveler. Emergency Shelters - how to build or find a shelter from a tree well to a snow cave. Basic Avalanche Awareness - the very basic decision making for pre-trip and in the field including the "GETS" and "KBYG". Winter First Aid Kits and Hypothermia - what you need in your kit different from the summer and how to identify and treat mild to moderate hypothermia. Leadership and Group Dynamics - planning a trip with the concept of working as a harmonious and collaborative team.
